INSPIRATION (Giving direction to your day) - OLA AINA

NAMING CEREMONY 2

Text: “…And thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord shall name.” Isa 62:2

God specifically told the Israelites he was taking them to a land that flowed with milk and honey. This is the divine description of that land (Lev 20:24). A name is a description of what we should see and expect of a place or a person. So many years later as the Israelites got close to the promise land some of the men were selected to go and spy out the land that God had promised them. What the spies saw was quite different from what was described years back.

Ten of the spies came back with an evil report. It was an evil report because they reported what they saw rather than what God said concerning that land. They actually saw the land flowing with milk and honey, but somehow they saw something different from what God said. That became more important to them than what God said. This was their report “…The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eats up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature” (Num 13:32). This people had given the land a different name from what God called it. This is the evil report.

If someone failed it could be logical to call the person a “failure”, but that will be an evil report. The ten spies used what they saw with their physical eyes to describe the land. It does not matter what you are seeing around your life, don’t use it to describe your life. Even when our experiences are negative we must be careful not to use it to give ourselves a name. Take time to discover what God had called you and conduct a naming ceremony for yourself. Sometimes ago an elderly lady called a very young lad a name and the young lad responded angrily “That is not my name”, the young lad mentioned his name and from that day the elderly lady also began to call the lad the right name. Don’t accept wrong names.

CONFESSION:
I am an eternal excellence and the joy of many generations. This is my name.
