Text: “And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and
proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. And Judah gathered themselves together,
to ask help of the Lord...” 2 Chron 20:3-4
This King was faced with one of the greatest challenge of his life.
According to him he had no might to face the enemies that had come against him.
His initial response was that of fear, but he must have realised that fear will
not solve the problem on ground. Fear will rather siphon all the inner strength
we need to face the challenge. Thank God he almost immediately changed his
response.
1. Set himself to seek the Lord.
2. Proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
3. Gathered them to ask help of the Lord.
This was a prayer response. He did not go about discussing how
powerful the enemies were. He did not call the experts or the army generals to
strategise. That would have been good, but he knew that the prayer response was
better. The enemies were coming with more sophisticated weapons.
The alter of prayer is where we receive divine help over our lives
and the issues that confronts us. We can never pray too much but we can pray
too little. The more we pray the more we are positioned to put the enemies
where they belong. In prayer we are declaring our dependence on God.
Please note that we are not just talking of prayer for the sake of
mere praying. We are talking of prayers that secure answers and results.
Prayers that get answers are prayers of faith that are based on the word of
God. God is only committed to fulfil his word, so our prayers must be based on
what is written.
PRAYER:
In the name of Jesus I connect to divine grace for the next level of
my life. I declare the abundance of grace as I go out today.
