KNOWING YOURSELF 3 (READ 1 & 2) HERE Continue to read 3
Text: “Therefore if any man be in
Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away; behold all things are
become new.” 2 Cor 5:17
Knowing that you are a new creation in Christ is a foundation of our
intimate walk with God. The consistency of your growth in Christ will depend on
this understanding. There is absolutely no reason why anything in the past
should define your life now. “Old things” here refers to everything that was
dealt with by the blood of Jesus. Sins of the past, mistakes of the past,
failure of the past and whatever went wrong in the past does not define your
life again.
Apostle Paul was a murderer; he literally supervised the stoning of
Stephen. He described himself in the past as the chief sinner. But from the point that he met Christ he
called himself “a new creation”, people who knew him before that encounter with
Jesus could have still be looking at him from what they knew about him. But now
he was a brand new person. The old is passed away.
Sin, failure and a useless way of life is completely passed away in
your life. Can you see yourself that way? Your feelings may not agree with
this, but your heart must agree with God’s word. Your mouth must also declare
it.
The principle of God’s word is completely different from human way of
seeing things. Human thinking says “when you do right you are a good person”,
but God’s word says “You are a good person learning to do right”. It’s not what
you do that makes you good. It’s what Christ did on the cross that made us
good. Now that his blood washed away our sins and gave us a new life we are
expected to begin to walk in the reality of who we are in Christ. Obviously God
will be disappointed that after he had done so much for us we still continue in
the old way of living. We are called to walk in newness of life and enjoying
the victory of the cross in every area of life.
CONFESSION:
The “old” is completely gone in my life. I walk in newness of life
in every area of my life.
