NAMING CEREMONY
1
Text: “And the Gentiles
shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called
by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord shall name.” Isa 62:2
Names are highly
significant in the Bible. Names are given for specific reasons. There are several
people who had names that became the exact expression of their lives. Jabez was
given a name by his mother that demonstrated the circumstances surrounding his
birth. The expression of the name also became an experience for him. Jacob
literally was cheating everyone possible because that was what his name
suggests. Abram was called a name that suggests an assumed father; there was no
way God’s counsel for his life would have come to pass in his life. God had to
change that name to Abraham which literally means a “a father of many nations”,
with that the process of seeing God’s counsel for his life was set in motion.
Many people are called
several names by the society based on certain criteria. The scores in an exam
could make someone to be called “average”. The result of a job interview may
call someone “unqualified”. This may
sound logical but calling someone that may become an imagination trap. It’s
important for us to know that it’s not what people or circumstances call us
that are most important but what God call us and what we call ourselves.
The result of an exam may
call you a “failure” but God calls you a success. God actually calls you names
of what men with ordinary eyes don’t see. God does not name us based on our
school results or circumstances around our lives. He names us based on his
eternal purpose for our lives. God called you blessed even when you have no
money in your pocket. God calls you the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus
even when we still make mistakes. Start calling yourself what God called you.
Make today your new naming ceremony. You are called blessed and successful.
CONFESSION:
I am the blessed of the
Lord. The apple of God’s eyes.
